Bigger Isn't Always Better: Deciding on a Home Size

If you ask most people what they would desire most in a new home, it's likely that many would prioritize size. While the need for more space might certainly be a major concern for you, the amount of extra space you actually need—or don't need—might surprise you. Here are a few things to consider when taking size into account during the home buying process.

How Do You Use Your Space?

Would your idea of a new home include rarely used spaces that just collect dust? There's certainly nothing wrong with splurging on what you want most, like a nice master bedroom with a private bathroom and walk-in closet, but it may be worth considering what you would use each room for before deciding on which home plan works best for you. Think about which size and layout would provide just the right amount of space for the comfort of you and your family.

What's Your Plan for Bedrooms?

Do you plan to have your kids share rooms, or will they each have their own? The upside of sharing rooms is that it gives you less area to maintain, but the downside is that the shared living space often reflects the number of bedrooms. If you prefer that they share, you might consider ways to create more common areas, like finishing the basement. Of course, kids also tend to outgrow shared bedrooms, so you may want to consider a home with additional bedrooms to ensure that every member of the family has enough personal space.

What Is It That Makes Your Home Feel Like Home?

Chances are, it's not the size that drives the sentiment of home. Personal touches and individualized features go much further in giving a home a cozy, secure feeling than unnecessary space does. Think about features like linear fireplaces, big bay windows, accent ceilings, the gourmet kitchen layout you've always wanted, or even design options like cabinetry and fixtures.

Whatever size home you want for your family, the experienced team at Robertson Homes can help you achieve it. We offer both new home construction options as well as newly built model homes in communities throughout the Detroit metro area. What Our Homebuyers Are Saying

I am so happy with my home overall and I can't thank each person enough who helped along the way. Sandy was so wonderful from start to finish and so quick to respond to questions. I was really impressed with the communication between Sandy and my Design Consultant Tiffany. They were in communication regarding my budget so Tiffany was able to assist me without overwhelming me with options that I was not in a position to add into the home. My construction supervisor Ryan was great throughout the process to work with. He was very responsive to calls and text and did a thorough job on the walk-throughs. I'm really impressed with the landscaping and all the trees within the complex, it really gives a warm and inviting feel to the complex.
